large-scale mobilization or positioning of forces. >> reporter: the young untested kim jong-un is trying to ind intimidate his neighbors. the u.s. responded with a show of force sending b-2 bombers to reassure its allies. >> we believe this is reducing the chance of miscalculation and provocati provocation. >> reporter: the military takes these seriously but the top military commander told abc news that the u.s. is being careful not to overreact and risk escalating this conflict into war. >> we thank you. major developments now on the national debate over gun control. the nra is expected to unveil its plan to place armed guards in schools later today. called the national school shield program, it comes in response to the newtown massacre. spurred by that tragedy lawmakers in connecticut are set to pass one of the toughest gun laws in the nation tomorrow. the deal includes a ban on new high-capacity magazines like the

ones used in newtown. >> prosecutors are ramping up their security after the murder of a district attorney there. hundreds on the scene promising to find his killer. pierre thomas reports. >> reporter: throughout texas fear and signs of tighter security. the kaufman county courthouse employees being walked in by armed guard. no prosecutions here, the district attorney's office is closed after the city's top prosecutor and his wife were murdered in cold blood saturday. they were shot multiple times with an assault rifle after an unknown gunman broke into their home. >> i would be less than honest if i told you i was not worried. >> reporter: kaufman district attorney mike mclelland's murder came only months after mike hasse was executed by two masked gunman. at the time, mclelland vowed his deputy's killer would be caught. >> we're going to find you. we're going to pull you out of

whatever hole you're in. >> reporter: now mclelland has been murdered and prosecutors across the state are on alert some with 'round-the-clock police protection. >> obviously we're under attack. >> reporter: one prosecutor talked about warning from his wife when he left for work. >> she told me be careful. told me she loved me. i told her to be careful as well. so we will be probably calling one another quite a bit during the day. >> reporter: police are going through the prosecutor's cases trying to figure out who would want them dead. there are prime candidates. >> this, i think, is a clear concern to individuals who are in public life, particularly those who deal with some very mean and vicious individuals whether they're white supremacy groups or drug cartels we have. >> reporter: the kaufman district attorney's office recently prosecuted members of the aryan brotherhood of texas. investigators want to know if the gang was out for revenge. but there is a long list of potential suspects.

so many unanswered questions. as one prosecutor told us "it is way too early to jump to any conclusion." pierre thomas, abc new, kaufman, texas. >> they're trying to determine if the murders in texas are linked to the killing of colorado's prison chief and now court documents reveal the suspect in that case, evan ebel, was released from prison four years early because of a clerical error. ebel was also a suspect in the murder of a pizza delivery man. nathan leon whose widow says the apology won't bring her husband back. >> i'm a 30-year-old widow with two little 4-year-olds. did i have to go on the rest of my life explaining what happened to their dad. that this all could have been prevented. >> katherine leon says a press release sending condolences to her family is simply not enough. aurora theater shooting suspect james holmes will face the death penalty if convicted. prosecutors in colorado say in this case, justice demands the ultimate punishment. they turned down an offer by

holmes to plead guilty. the defense says they won't be ready till early next year. court employees are due in court in a massive cheating scandal. a former superintendent as well as teachers, principals and test coordinators face charges in the scheme to change students' scores on high stakes federal tests. prosecutors say they wanted to make their schools look better and to earn performance bonuses. time for the weather across the nation right now. some severe weather is again a threat in western texas with hail, gusty winds and even another tornado or two. areas around the great lakes could see snow with syracuse picking up 3 inches. a few showers for south florida. >> won't feel much like april in the east or the upper midwest with temperatures ten degrees colder than usual but it's nice and warm across the gulf coast with new orleans near 80, denver in the 40s with some rain. >> all right, coming up, the latest on kevin ware and his march madness leg injury seen

a federal judge has ruled the city of stockton, california, can now become the largest american city to enter bankruptcy. the city says its budget and services have been cut to the bone, and bankruptcy is the only option. among its debts, $900 million in pension payments. the case could set a precedent for other struggling cities by determining which debts are paid and in what order. it's a big day for ford and general motors. the auto giants are expected to release u.s. sales figures

showing march was their best month in six years. overall, it looks to be their fifth consecutive month with an annual sales rate of more than 15 million vehicles. and walmart is offering major new discounts on gasoline. the price of a gallon of gas is being cut 15 cents for customers who pay with a walmart money card or a credit card and 10 cents for those who pay with a walmart gift card. the offer is good in 21 states until july. the company is hoping cheaper gas motivates people to shop more. an appeals court has given the go ahead to a start-up called aereo company that allows retransmission of tv signals through its website and app. now, major broadcasters had sued for copyright infringement. aereo sidesteps the law by allowing subscribers to rent an individual tv antenna at its warehouse. now, the company plans a major expansion. now that it's april 2nd, a little disclaimer here. it turns out that sony has not put out a line of pet products for pets called animalia. huh?

them on. jury selection begins in the michael jackson wrongful death suit. the jackson family blames tour promoter aeg for hiring dr. conrad murray. murray is in prison for giving the pop star an overdose of propof propofol. among those to testify, his two oldest children. here's brandi hitt. >> reporter: paris and prince are expected to be the two star witnesses that will ship their family's direction in a new direction taking aeg to trial today. aeg sponsored his comeback concert tour. his mother and his children claim aeg hired and supervised dr. conrad murray. he was sentenced to four years in prison on involuntary manslaughter charges. >> four years is not enough for someone's life. >> reporter: family members claim michael jackson was under pressure to get ready for his concert when he was not physically able. >> this is really a phase two of

a little best fog. in san rafael the orange part indicates where the fog could affect the commute. southbound 101 to the tunnel we have at least two lanes blocked until 6:00 a.m. >> 4:29. we have developing news from the south bays the man accused of driving his cars through the doors of a san jose walmart and attacking people will appear in court today. we live at walmart with more. sue? >> good morning. there is still, this morning, no motive as to why the suspect drove through the front doors of the walmart here in san jose. police are still working to try and get some of the answers. police do say that the man that drove his red oldsmobile cutlass into the front of a walmart store in san jose on sunday is 33-year-old hamid zaid. he now will face a number of charges including assault with a

deadly weapon and being under the influence of drugs. he will be arraigned later today. police say he tore through a walmart parking lot and circling the parking lot and hitting cars and plowing into the front car where customers say he jumped out and started attacking people with a blunt object including hurting a tore cashier, hitting him on the head and customers jumped in to help to try and hold him down until police could arrive. officers say at least up until now getting information from the suspect has not been easy. >> he was uncooperative yesterday as well as under the influence so until we can actually talk to him and he is will to discuss what happened and what his state of mind is, we will not know any of that information until later. >> police still work to continue to tie to get the answers they have said again and again, officers have said, the real

heroes here were the customers inside the walmart store. this is cell phone video of the customers holding zaid down to keep him from hurting anyone else. some officers say people used belts off their pants to try and tie his legs together in order to hold him down before officers could arrive. again, the very latest on this is that hamid zaid will be arraigned later today in a santa clara county courtroom. >> 4:31. a cab driver is under arrest and being investigated for possible d.w.i. he ran his vehicle off the road in burlingame on southbound 101 near millbrae at 1:30 this morning. c.h.p. cleared the scene a few minutes ago. the cab cut across all lanes and went down a ditch on the other side of the road. firefighters checked the driver out at the scene and took him into
